Character
Name: Akabane Kuroudo / Dr. Jackal
Canon: Get Backers
Age: Unknown, but looks in his late twenties/early thirties
History:
There are actually two Akabane's, one is the actual real deal, whom lives in Shinjuku, also called Babylon City. The other, more well known version was the man's backup created within Ura-Shinjuku which was created to be a copy or backup of the actual city. More information can be found about the backup version in the link below.
The actual Akabane Kuroudou was a warzone surgeon/doctor and it is possible that he also had dealings with the Brain Trust since he seems to know quite a bit about the alternate world. When he once lost a young patient and felt the boy die in his arms without him able to do anything to save him, he cursed god and wished for power over life and death and this in turn caused the Doctor Jackal that most know in Ura-Shinjuku to come about.
When Ginji arrived in Babylon City, the man welcomed Ginji and escorted him through Shinjuku, explaining a bit about the city and arranging for Ginji to meet the real counterparts for two of his friends. He then led Ginji to meet with the mother of the real Ginji, as well as being the creator of the backup world due to gathering up the scientists and people needed to form the Brain Trust and construct the Archive that watched over the backup world
Dr. Jackal: A History/Overview
Canon Point: Vol 37-39 [Get Back the Lost Time arc]
Preferred Team: Chaos
Cycle Goal: Testing his abilities to their fullest and actually being defeated by someone.
Memories:
General - He transports things, both inanimate and living.
Specific - Being defeated once due to the metal his scalpels were made of
Personality: At first glance, Akabane appears to be nothing more than a harmless formally dressed man. His polite manners and constant smile do nothing to dispel the image either. By the time anyone who would seek to take advantage of the man find out the image belies Akabane's actual nature, they're already dead or soon to be dead. Not that this bothers the man in the least, in fact he tends to find such efforts amusing most times. Of course repeated attempts on his life by those who bore him will eventually sour his mood and earn those to annoy him a rather quick and grisly death.
The man known as "Dr. Jackal" is for the most part a hedonist. How much pleasure or entertainment he gains from a given job or task is what he looks for. He could care less about the fee the people are paying for the job to be done. Once he accepts the job, anyone or anything which stands between him and his goal is in very real danger, as he will with no remorse slice up anything which impedes his progress.
Akabane also has a habit at times of 'playing' with his opponents when they prove capable of actually going up against the man and not perishing after the first exchange of blows. The only person which has actually managed to get Akabane to go all out with them would be Ban Midou. In return for allowing him to test himself so, Akabane granted Ban a 'favor' in the sense that he saved Ban from disappearing via fooling Archive to believe that Ban had died by his scalpel.
Jackal has no sense of actual loyalty to anyone save perhaps himself. If it serves his purpose he will trick people into aiding him in getting his work done. In volume 30, Akabane hires the Getbackers to retrieve someone for him and in the course of that leads them to where he was hired to bring Ban and Himiko to a certain location. He also has no qualms about doing a job for a person and then turning about after that duty has been completed to work with the person's opposition to take something from the person he just finished working with.
Skills and Abilities: See This
Samples: Forced to Kill; Claude Faustus vs Akabane
It's rather disappointing when jobs go exactly as they're planed to. I suppose others in my line of work would prefer precisely that, but there's no fun in it for me when it ends up happening. I like it when someone tries to change the plan while its in motion. It makes things entertaining and livens the journey up considerably. It's a shame that such jobs are unfortunately hard to find at times. It almost tempts me to ask for a lack of discretion from the client, if only so someone will actively seek to disrupt my work and grant me a reprieve from the boredom which accompanies a perfectly planned job.
Arena:
Arena Name: The Beltline
Physical Description: There are two areas to the arena, the entry point which can appear as a courtyard with a large door, and the massive room beyond the door. Upon entry into the door one is instantly transported into one end of the room. It is largely a wide open room, but there are smaller areas within which to hide or lay traps within off to the sides or above the rafters by the ceiling. The windows look out into nothing but empty courtyard that cannot be reached, unless one is willing to breech the windows themselves.
Media: Entry point
Inside 1, showing the end of the room, part of the walls and rafters
Inside 2, showing the length of the room and walls
Inside 3, comparison view to show how high the walls are
Inside 4, a view of the area above the rafters
Effects: Everyone: A slow HP-drain upon entry that continues until one leaves, but any and all healing effects are hastened and moderately increased while there as well.
